This product is designed for air sanitization/disinfection and deodorizing, however surface disinfection near the unit may also occur.  Safer SpacesTM consists of a dispenser box and chlorine dioxide pouches (refills) which used one at a time, should be replaced about every 45 days.  Chlorine dioxide (ClO2) gas was discovered over 200 years ago. Today, new activation methods and protocols have been perfected and optimized to better take advantage of its outstanding properties.  ClO2 is widely used to kill most pathogens including viruses, bacteria, parasites, mold spores, fungi and others, and is approved for use in virtually all disinfection applications where needed or desired.  Even food processing facilities including poultry processing plants use chlorine dioxide extensively.  Commercial and restaurant kitchens use it, as it is EPA approved as safe enough for use where food contact occurs.  Chlorine dioxide is used globally to disinfect drinking water and is EPA approved for this and many other disinfecting purposes.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
  1) open (separate 2 halves of) the white plastic dispenser and discard any contents - no special disposal method is required, just toss used bags in the trash, contents will not harm the environment 

  2) carefully tear open a new foil pouch, remove the fabric bag and place it unopened in dispenser - do not wet or moisten this bag - product activates automatically and will be up-to-strength within a few hours with just the normal humidity in the airspace  

  3) re-close the dispenser by snapping the 2 halves together - if desired, use double-stick tape or similar to keep dispenser unit up and away from children and pets (note that the 'hook and loop' contained in the dispenser pack uses a PERMANENT adhesive! - the "hook" side is normally mounted on the fixed surface and the "loop" side is on the dispenser - it is suggested that this fastener NOT be used on drywall, wallpaper, painted surfaces, etc.)  Dispenser can be located under a kitchen cabinet or high on the side of a refrigerator, for example, using this attachment method if so desired.  This method also works well for mounting under the dash in a car or truck to keep dispenser from sunlight exposure.

  4) mark your calendar to replace refill bag in about 45 days; place unit where desired, in the center of a room is optimal, in reasonably still air the unit will provide a "bubble" of primary protection extending about 12 ft around the dispenser, this protection area will expand over time depending on room configurations and air movementsTHAT'S IT! That completes the activation process of the chlorine dioxide integrated in the pellets in the fabric bag. 

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND!
This dispenser requires no power, makes no sound, shows no visible signs of operation and you should virtually never even smell the very slight chlorine-like odor emitted from it, but it's working hard nonetheless!  Independent research has indicated that this type of product can eliminate/kill up to 99.9% of pathogens (viruses, bacteria, fungi, mold spores, parasites, etc) within the primary protection area!

However...

Every time of day, temperature and humidity interior environment is unique
Even lighting at any given time is unique
The airflow/air exchange in every interior location is unique
The number of people in a given area is unique and often changing

Please allow for at least a 24 hour period after activation and placement for an equilibrium to occur when moving unit into a new location - remember, this is a very low volume, slow release product. We mention this because YOUR knowledge plays a key role in achieving and maintaining optimal benefit in the use and placement of the Safer Spaces dispenser and product.

You may notice a very slight chlorine-type odor when you initially deploy the product, however you should NOT notice this odor often or ever on a sustained basis - if you do, you need to make adjustments to reduce both the frequency and the intensity of these occurrences.

If you desire to "turn off" the operation of the product for a period of time, return it to it's resealable bag (or similar) and store in a cool dark location away from access by children and pets.

Some things you should NOT do with the Safer Spaces product:
DO NOT cut, puncture or otherwise open the fabric bag (refill) at any time.
DO NOT allow fabric bag to get wet.
DO NOT permit fabric bag to contact other chemicals.
DO NOT inhale concentrated gas as might be accumulated in a plastic bag.
DO NOT ALLOW CHILDREN OR PETS ACCESS TO THIS PRODUCT. 
DO NOT place dispenser near sleeping humans or animals.
DO NOT use in any interior spaces without air exchange.
DO NOT place dispenser in direct sunlight - sunlight rapidly neutralizes chlorine dioxide AND the more direct sunlight in the room, the less effective the product will be during daylight hours.

Note the date and plan to replace the bag with a new pouch about every 45 days - smell the product through the dispenser after it's been in use for a couple of days, if you can still smell the product (at the dispenser) after about 45 days, you can extend your use time another week or two. Product consumption will vary depending on numerous environmental and human inputs.  Wash hands after handling fabric bag.
 
Keep product and hands from eyes, wash thoroughly if eyes become exposed to ClO2 product dust.  Contact poison control center if product is ingested.  In the very rare event of coughing or if other unexpected sensitivity to the ClO2 is detected when in close proximity to the dispenser, remove persons or animals to fresh air and relocate the unit or seal it back up in its reclosable bag and see if the response is eliminated. If this type of event recurs, please contact us for a product refund.  

For best results use in enclosed spaces with normal air exchange - this unit is designed to provide reasonable beneficial coverage to approximately 600 sq ft of internal building space or up to 5,000 cu ft of enclosed space.

The sanitization benefit will normally be greatest the closer the proximity to the dispenser.  You may occasionally catch a whiff of a chlorine scent but having this unit around will be generally unnoticed at all times - if you detect a “swimming pool-like” smell more than rarely, relocate the dispenser further from your primary use area.  Consider utilizing additional units for larger areas (scale as appropriate).  For greater air exchange, more outside air exchange, more people, etc increase Safer Spaces units - use approximately 1 additional unit per additional 10 - 15 people within recommended space protection areas.

The primary protection area is closest to the location of dispenser and degrades as the distance increases; however, the amount of ClO2 gas required to neutralize pathogens is incredibly small and there have been a number of significant medical studies which bear out this premise - some referenced on this website, some concluding that the efficacy of ClO2 gas at these release concentrations in enclosed spaces can reduce pathogen load by more than 99.9% !!

The "primary protection area" is roughly 10 -15 ft around the dispenser though additional benefit may extend to a larger area over time. Humidity also plays a significant role in improving the efficiency of the ClO2 disinfection process - optimal Relative Humidity is in the 30% - 40% range.
